At Welland Valley Vets, we want you to feel comfortable and confident when making decisions about your pet’s care. We know that when you’re looking at veterinary prices, you want to understand more than just the number – you want to know what’s included, what might be needed in addition, and what you’re likely to pay.

That’s why we’ve published the prices for many of our most commonly requested services, together with clear information about what’s included.

Every practice is different, and veterinary treatment isn’t always directly comparable. The level of care, time, monitoring and support provided can vary. We believe it’s important that you understand not only the cost, but also the care your pet will receive.

Understanding our prices

Our published prices are based on a typical, straightforward case and include the care and services specifically listed.

For each service, you can open “What’s included?” to see exactly what is covered by the published price.

Sometimes, a pet may need additional tests, treatment, medication or monitoring because of their individual circumstances. These aren’t hidden extras. If we recommend something that isn’t included in the published price, we’ll explain what is needed and why, discuss the options with you, and always provide an estimate before proceeding.

Consultations & Nurse Services

We want you to have enough time to talk through your pet’s health, ask questions and understand any recommendations. Our standard veterinary consultations are 20 minutes, giving our vets time to listen, examine your pet and discuss the next steps in their care.

Veterinary Consultations

Standard veterinary consultation – 20 minutes — £49

Follow-up veterinary consultation – 20 minutes — £39

If your pet needs further tests, treatment or procedures, we’ll explain what we recommend, why it may be needed and the expected cost before proceeding.

Follow-up consultations – when are they appropriate?

A follow-up appointment is designed to review your pet’s progress following an initial consultation, diagnosis or treatment. It gives the vet an opportunity to assess how your pet is responding, check their recovery and decide whether any further treatment or investigation is needed.

A follow-up appointment may be appropriate for:

Rechecking an ongoing problem or condition
Reviewing your pet after treatment or medication
Checking progress following an injury or procedure
Discussing the results of tests or investigations
Monitoring a condition that requires ongoing care
Adjusting treatment where necessary

Follow-up appointments are not intended for a new or unrelated problem. If your pet has developed a new concern, a standard veterinary consultation may be more appropriate so that we have enough time to fully assess the new problem.

What might cost extra?

The consultation fee does not include additional tests, medication, procedures or treatment.

If your pet needs something beyond the consultation, we’ll explain what we’re recommending, why it is needed and the expected cost before proceeding. For straightforward items such as medication or prescriptions, we’ll let you know the cost before dispensing or providing them.

Nurse Consultations & Services

Our veterinary nurses provide a range of routine services and appointments. These can be a convenient option for straightforward care that does not require a veterinary consultation.

Nurse consultation – 20 minutes — £20

Our nurses will always work within their professional scope of practice. If they feel your pet would benefit from veterinary assessment, we’ll explain this and recommend the most appropriate next step.

Prescription Reviews – £49

For pets receiving ongoing medication, we typically recommend a prescription review every 3–6 months, depending on their condition, medication and individual circumstances.

A prescription review is a veterinary consultation to make sure your pet’s condition remains well controlled and that their medication continues to be appropriate and safe. It gives us an opportunity to assess how your pet is doing, discuss any changes you’ve noticed and review their ongoing treatment.

Prescription review – 20 minutes — £49

Assess how they are responding to their medication
Discuss any changes or concerns you’ve noticed
Check whether their current medication and dose remain appropriate
Discuss any monitoring or investigations that may be recommended

Prescription reviews are particularly important for pets receiving long-term medication, as their needs can change over time.

Why do I need a prescription review?

Regular reviews help us make sure that your pet continues to receive the right medication at the right dose, while monitoring their health and the effectiveness of their treatment.

The frequency of review will depend on your pet’s condition and medication. Your vet will advise you when a review is due.

What might cost extra?

The prescription review consultation does not include medication, blood tests, monitoring tests or other treatment that may be recommended.

If further investigations or treatment are appropriate, we’ll explain what we recommend, why it is needed and the expected cost before proceeding. For medication or prescriptions, we’ll let you know the cost before dispensing or providing them.

Vaccinations

Vaccination is an important part of keeping your pet protected from serious and potentially life-threatening diseases. We also understand that vaccination schedules can sometimes be confusing, particularly when different parts of the vaccination are given at different intervals.

At Welland Valley Vets, we tailor your pet’s vaccination schedule to their age, lifestyle and individual risk, while following the recommended vaccination intervals for the vaccines we use.

How often does my dog need vaccinating?

Not every part of your dog’s vaccination needs to be repeated every year.

Leptospirosis (L4) needs to be given every year to maintain protection.
DHP (Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvovirus) is given every 3 years once your dog’s initial vaccination course and appropriate boosters have been completed.

This means that your dog’s annual visit may not involve exactly the same vaccines every year. We will check your pet’s vaccination history and let you know which vaccinations are due.

Why does my dog need an annual vaccination if some vaccines last three years?

The annual appointment is an important opportunity to maintain protection against diseases such as leptospirosis, which requires annual vaccination, as well as to check your dog’s overall health.

It also allows us to make sure your dog’s vaccination record is up to date and that their preventative healthcare continues to be appropriate for their lifestyle.

How often does my cat need vaccinating?

Again, not every component of your cat’s vaccination needs to be repeated every year.

Cat flu vaccination is given every year.
Panleukopenia and FeLV are given every 3 years as part of our routine vaccination schedule, where appropriate for your cat.

Your cat’s vaccination needs will depend on their age, lifestyle and level of exposure to other cats and infectious diseases. Your vet will discuss the most appropriate schedule for your individual pet.

Why does my cat need an annual vaccination if some vaccines last three years?

The annual vaccination appointment allows us to maintain protection against cat flu and, importantly, gives us an opportunity to check your cat’s health regularly.

Cats are very good at hiding signs of illness, so these routine health checks can be valuable even when your cat appears completely well at home.

My pet is overdue for a vaccination – what happens?

Don’t worry. If your pet is overdue, we’ll check their previous vaccination history and discuss the most appropriate way to bring their protection up to date.

The vaccination schedule needed will depend on which vaccines your pet has previously received and how long it has been since their last vaccination. We will explain what is recommended before proceeding.

What might cost extra?

The vaccination price includes the vaccination appointment, health check and vaccination(s) due at that appointment, as detailed above.

If your vet identifies another health concern during the examination, they will discuss this with you. Any additional tests, treatment or medication are separate from the vaccination price, and we’ll make sure you understand the expected cost before proceeding.

Our approach to vaccination

We don’t see vaccination as simply a quick appointment to give an injection. It is an opportunity to check your pet’s health, consider their lifestyle and make sure their preventative healthcare remains appropriate for them.

Our aim is to give your pet the protection they need, without giving vaccinations more frequently than necessary.

Rabbit vaccination – £74

Rabbits are particularly vulnerable to myxomatosis and rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD). Both diseases can cause severe illness and death, and unfortunately there is often very little that can be done once a rabbit becomes infected.

Vaccination provides important protection against these potentially fatal diseases and is an important part of your rabbit’s preventative healthcare.

Why does my rabbit need an annual vaccination?

Protection against myxomatosis and RHD needs to be maintained through regular vaccination. We recommend keeping your rabbit’s vaccination up to date even if they live indoors, as these diseases can be transmitted in ways that aren’t always obvious.

We will let you know when your rabbit’s next vaccination is due.
